The Rutherford Vet Center Outstation is part of The United States Department of Veterans Affairs - Office of Readjustment Counseling Service and not affiliated with the State of North Carolina or the local government of Rutherford County. The Rutherford Vet Center Outstation is an outstation of the Greenville South Carolina Vet Center, 14 Lavinia Avenue, Greenville, SC 29601. We are the people in VA who welcome home with honor the war veteran by providing quality readjustment services in a caring manner assisting them and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their respective communities.
Vet Center Mission
Vet Centers serve veterans and their families by providing a continuum of quality care that adds value for veterans, families, and communities. Care includes professional readjustment counseling, community education, outreach to special populations, the brokering of services with community agencies, and provides a key access link between the veteran and other services in the U.S. Department of Veterans.

Kevin D. Hendrickson, MSW, LCSW, BCETS, DAAETS - Clinical Social Worker / Outstation Coordinator
The Vet Center Outstation located in Spindale, North Carolina is coordinated by Kevin D. Hendrickson, MSW, LCSW, BCETS, DAAETS. Kevin is a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of trauma including posttraumatic stress disorder. He also has extensive practice in treating depression, anxiety, substance abuse, victims of sexual abuse, couples and marital issues, family relational issues, as well as crisis management and numerous other conditions and disorders. Kevin provides services to eligible veterans via individual, group, couples and family therapy.
Kevin is a licensed clinical social worker as well as a board certified expert in traumatic stress. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and is listed in the national registry of the National Center for Crisis Management.
Kevin is a veteran of the US Air Force of nearly eight years. Kevin served both US and overseas tours while in the Air Force including being deployed to the 870th Contingency Hospital in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1991.
Kevin is a member of the Department of Veterans Affairs - Readjustment Counseling Service Disaster Response Team for the Southeast Region. In 2005, Kevin deployed to the Gulf Coast to support Vet Center Staff and veterans affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Kevin received an undergraduate bachelor of social work degree (BSW) from East Tennessee State University located in Johnson City, Tennessee. He then completed his graduate work and received a master of social work degree (MSW) from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
Rita Pettit, MA, LPA - Part-Time Contract Provider
The Vet Center Outstation also provides time-limited services through a part-time contract clinician providing therapy services.
Rita is a master level licensed psychologist who has extensive training and experience in the treatment of trauma including posttraumatic stress disorder as well as with victims of sexual trauma and domestic violence. She also works in a private practice with adults and older adolescents in the treatment of depression, anxiety, family issues and marital counseling as well as general mental health issues.
Rita received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Kennesaw State College in Georgia. She then received her masters degree from West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia.
