Rutherford County is seeking a part-time Fire Investigator to join our team. Principal duties will consist of determining the origin and cause of fires involving a myriad of incidents. These may include but are not limited to residential and commercial structure, vehicle, and marine fires; gathering photographic and physical evidence; preparing oral and written reports that document causes of fire or explosion incidents; preparing and giving depositions and expert testimony; conducting investigations to document onsite conditions including scene photography, interviewing witnesses, and evidence/data gathering. Required Education and Certifications: NC – FIT (Fire Investigation Technician) certification (Required). Additional education preferred but not required. AAS in Fire Science (preferred) NC BLET Certification (preferred) Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) by I.A.A.I.; with five to ten years of related fire experience and/or training. (Preferred) Other certifications and credentials may be required.   Work is scheduled as needed.  Salary $15.54 per hour. POSITION AVAILABLE –Rutherford County Animal Control Facility has a full time Office Manager position available. Reports to the Solid Waste Director.  An employee in this class manages a department responsible for the enforcement of county animal control ordinances, state and federal rabies laws and regulations, animal cruelty investigations, animal adoption and euthanasia.  Work includes supervising and participating in the capture and confinement of stray and vicious animals and enforces regulations concerning vaccinations, licensing and control of animals.  Work also includes supervisory functions of planning daily work schedule, problem-solving in difficult situations, reviewing employee performance and hiring, budgeting and purchasing.  Independent judgment and initiative are required in determining appropriate actions for injured and vicious animals.  Tact, courtesy and firmness are necessary in dealing with the public.  Some risk is involved in handling rabid or vicious animals.  Work in the animal control field is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne standards.  Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by consultations and review of records. Candidate will work with inmates from the Department of Corrections on a regular basis. Min req:  Graduation from a community college or considerable knowledge and experience in animal control including the ability to lead/supervise subordinates, and/or education and experience in animal care. Candidate must have or be readily available to obtain a rabies vaccination certification and a certification in animal euthanasia. Candidate must possess strong computer skills and possess a Valid  NC driver’s license with a clean driving record. Candidate must be familiar with County geography. Wages $41,262 plus benefits including NC Retirement, 401k, health, dental and life insurance.  40 hours per week (Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm).  May be required to work occasional night and weekend hours on a on-call basis. Rutherford County Revenue Department has a Deed Certification Specialist position available: Work in this class is responsible for tasks associated with verifying that all taxes are paid before a deed is recorded in the Register of Deeds office. Collecting current and delinquent tax collections for the County in accordance with State laws governing these activities.  Work includes verifying delinquent taxpayer information, sending initial and follow-up notifications to delinquent taxpayers informing them of collection procedures if taxes are not paid.  Work also includes answering inquiries from the taxpayers and establishing payment arrangements.  The employee in this class is also expected to assist in other areas of the department as needed.  Judgement and initiative are required as well as tact and courtesy. POSITION AVAILABLE - Rutherford County has a full time Heavy Equipment Operator position available. Position reports to the Solid Waste Director.  Work involves a variety of tasks, including loading, packing and covering refuse at the Landfill using heavy equipment such as front loader, dozer, and roll-off truck. Main duties will be performed at the Transfer Station and C&D. POSITION AVAILABLE- Rutherford County Solid Waste Department has a Truck Driver Position open.  Position is full time and reports to the Solid Waste Director. Position is responsible for collecting and transporting solid waste and recyclables, dirt or other hauls as assigned. Work involves driving and picking up on a scheduled route, monitoring status and repair needs of truck, and recording mileage, times in and out and other data.  Minimum requirements:  High School Diploma, must possess valid N.C. POSITION AVAILABLE-Rutherford County Tourism Development has a part time, Welcome Center Information Specialist position available at the Welcome Center located in Lake Lure, NC. Applicant must be able to handle an extremely fast-paced environment. Knowledge of or willingness to learn, and ability to share county tourism assets, attractions, restaurants, lodging and events will be required. This positon will primarily work from the Welcome Center in Lake Lure and may also assist at occasional events. The ideal candidate must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and 1-2 years’ experience in a customer service position. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop and reach. This job requires a flexible schedule, which will include weekends and holidays and is up to 19 hours per week.  POSITION AVAILABLE-Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle.  Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography.  Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are based on need up to 19 hrs/week, possibility hours will increase to 29. EMS Positions Available:

POSITION AVAILABLE-Paramedic, AEMT and EMT 12 Hour Shift positions available Rutherford County EMS is excited to announce that we are now hiring for multiple 12 hour shifts on our 911 Division. Starting wages are: Paramedic ($20.10/hour, $48,077 annual). AEMT ($16.79/hour, $40,167 annual). EMT ($16.05/hour, $38,401 annual). Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (7) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County. The 911 trucks work a 12 hour Pittman schedule.
Minimum Training and Experience:  All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current NCOEMS credential in good standing.  Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS.   ALS candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP & PHTLS/ITLS/ATT.  All candidates must possess or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 prior to employment.  Candidates are required to submit to pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record check and background checks.
