Rutherford County has a Mechanic II Position available.  This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment.  This position is the lead mechanic and conducts scheduled preventive maintenance functions, oil changes, diagnoses vehicle malfunctions and mechanical problems, performs engine, exhaust, steering, electrical, air conditioning, and brake repairs.  Prepares work reports and inventory control and other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications:  Tech 1 Automotive Certification with 3 to 5 years experience in general automotive repair and /or a technical school certificate (ASE) preferred.  Candidate must provide appropriate tools for the trade.  Must be able to weld. Must have knowledge of hydraulics. Must be able to lift/push/pull 50+ lbs.  Possession of or ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license.  Hours Mon-Fri-8:00 am-4:30 pm.  Salary $36,471 plus great benefit package that includes 401k, NC State retirement, health/dental/life insurance, and paid sick and vacation leave.  Apply at Rutherford County 289 N. Rutherford County is seeking to fill the position of Department of Social Services (DSS) Director.  Rutherford County has a population of approximately 67,000.  The Agency has an annual budget of $4.9M and there are 145 employees. The Social Services Director is responsible for administering State and Federal Social Services Programs established by Chapter 108A of the North Carolina General Statutes in accordance with applicable federal and state rules.  The Director directs other managers/supervisors, professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the delivery of Agency services and provides leadership and direction for program development, establishing program standards and monitoring, and evaluating quality of service delivery systems.  The Director supervises budget activities and may maintain direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues, and serve as the principle spokesperson for the Agency relative to program issues.  Work also involves working closely with the County Manager, County Commissioners, and other human services agencies in the County, and serving on numerous community boards.  This position is appointed by, and reports directly to, a local Board of Social Services, and indirectly to the County Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of the legal and philosophical basis for public welfare programs. Considerable knowledge of principles and practice of social work. Thorough knowledge of management principles, techniques and practices. Knowledge of the Agency’s organization, operation and objectives and applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; direct employees and programs in the various areas of responsibility; and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public and with federal, state and local officials...
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A master’s degree in social work and two years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services; or a bachelor’s degree in social work and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, one of which must have been in Social Services; or graduation from a four year college or university and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, two of which must have been in Social Services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 POSITION AVAILABLE –Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle.  Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography.  Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are based on need up to 19 hrs/week, possibility hours will increase to 29. Transit operates from approx 6:30a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, wages are $10.20 per hour.  Minimum requirements: valid N.C. driver’s license, excellent driving record, five years experience as a licensed driver, graduation from high school, pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing required.  CDL preferred.  Apply Rutherford County Human Resources Department, 289 N. EMT-Paramedic Full Time Position

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for EMT-Paramedic full time positions. Rutherford County, located in Western North Carolina consists of 564 square miles and an annual population of 64,000.  Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (5) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County and (4) EMT-P level convalescent trucks from (1) base. The 911 trucks work a 24/48 schedule and the convalescent trucks work a sliding schedule based on need of trucks.  Salary Range is $40,000-$45,000 include overtime.  All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current EMT-P credential with NCOEMS in good standing.  Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS.   ALS candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP & PHTLS/ITLS/ATT.  All candidates must possess or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 prior to employment.  Candidates are required to submit to pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record check and background checks. Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking full-time detention officers.  Duties include direct supervision, processing, classification, transporting and safety of inmates.  Applicants must have good communication skills, be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma, and be able to pass a drug test and an extensive criminal background check.  Applicant must meet Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office requirements and be eligible for certification by NC Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission.  Work schedule-rotating 12 hour shifts.  Salary $33,251 with full benefit package which includes health/dental insurance, State retirement and 401k.
