Rutherford County has a Library Associate Position available:  An employee in this class is responsible for planning, outreach, programming, circulation, collection development and other activities in the library with a special emphasis on adult services.  The employee researches, plans and facilitates adult programming such as speakers, crafts, demonstrations, presentations, games and reading programs.   In addition, the employee participates in collection development, circulation, cataloguing work, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, and performs other activities. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Library Director, and is evaluated through conferences, reports, quality and quantity of services delivered, customer satisfaction, and daily observation. Considerable knowledge of books, materials and resources in adult services area of the library.           Knowledge of the operation practices of a public library and practices of library science. Knowledge of the use of library technology and social media. Must be a self-starter, able to complete projects independently, and have a team-oriented attitude. Position entails contact with the general public in person, by telephone, by email, and through all social media outlets. The applicant must present him or herself with courteous professionalism. The candidate must possess strong computer skills with Windows, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Must be able to perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Graduation from college and library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferably a Bachelor of Arts in Library Science.

Position Available- Rutherford County Senior Center has a part time Nutrition Site Manager Position available in Ellenboro.  The Site Manager ensures adherence to Federal/State rules and regulations governing public nutrition programs.  Must conduct confidential interviews with participants, complete forms, keep records of attendance, meals served, and daily contributions.  Employee is also responsible for supervising volunteers, planning activities and performs some janitorial service for the site.  19 hours per week Mon-Fri. Rutherford County Tourism Development has a part time, Welcome Center Information Specialist position available at the Welcome Center located in Lake Lure, NC. Applicant must be able to handle an extremely fast-paced environment. Knowledge of or willingness to learn, and ability to share county tourism assets, attractions, restaurants, lodging and events will be required. This positon will primarily work from the Welcome Center in Lake Lure and may also assist at occasional events. Duties include, but are not limited to, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, researching and providing verbal or printed/written information, restocking informational brochures, stocking supplies and some janitorial cleaning within center. The ideal candidate must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and 1-2 years’ experience in a customer service position. Candidate must be a reliable, flexible, outgoing, personable individual and must be comfortable with utilizing computers with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, internet research skills and be familiar with iPads. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop and reach. This job requires a flexible schedule, which will include weekends and holidays and is up to 19 hours per week. POSITION AVAILABLE –Rutherford County has a full time Animal Control Operations Attendant position available. Reports to the Animal Control Operations Supervisor.  Position is responsible to respond to grievances and complaints regarding stray, nuisance, or rabid animals including the capture and containment of such animals. Position performs routine cleaning and animal care in support of the operations of the Animal Control Facility including uploading pictures of adoptable/lost pets, maintains records, reports and paperwork, answers telephone and greets visitors.  Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs or more. Candidate must be able to tactfully deal with the public.  Candidate will work with inmates from the Department of Corrections on a regular basis and must be 21 years or older.  Min req:  Graduation from high school with experience in animal control and care.  Candidate must have or be readily available to obtain a rabies vaccination certification and a certification in animal euthanasia. Rutherford County is seeking to fill the position of Department of Social Services (DSS) Director.  Rutherford County has a population of approximately 67,000.  The Agency has an annual budget of $4.9M and there are 145 employees. The Social Services Director is responsible for administering State and Federal Social Services Programs established by Chapter 108A of the North Carolina General Statutes in accordance with applicable federal and state rules.  The Director directs other managers/supervisors, professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the delivery of Agency services and provides leadership and direction for program development, establishing program standards and monitoring, and evaluating quality of service delivery systems.  The Director supervises budget activities and may maintain direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues, and serve as the principle spokesperson for the Agency relative to program issues.  Work also involves working closely with the County Manager, County Commissioners, and other human services agencies in the County, and serving on numerous community boards.  This position is appointed by, and reports directly to, a local Board of Social Services, and indirectly to the County Manager.

 POSITION AVAILABLE –Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle.  Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography.  Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are based on need up to 19 hrs/week, possibility hours will increase to 29. EMS Positions Available:

Paramedic, AEMT and EMT 12 Hour Shift positions available Rutherford County EMS is excited to announce that we are now hiring for multiple 12 hour shifts on our 911 Division. Starting wages are: Paramedic ($20.10/hour, $48,077 annual). AEMT ($16.79/hour, $40,167 annual). EMT ($16.05/hour, $38,401 annual). Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (7) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County. The 911 trucks work a 12 hour Pittman schedule.

EMS Convalescent Ambulance Position Rutherford County EMS is hiring for one position on our Convalescent ambulance.  Applicant must be a NC credentialed Paramedic, AEMT or EMT.  Work is conducted 40 hours/week Monday-Friday with semi-fixed hours based on weekly schedule of non-emergency transports.  Starting wages are: Paramedic ($20.10/hour, $41,808 annual). Rutherford County Sheriff's 911 Communications is seeking to fill Part Time Telecommunicator position(s). Training provided by a Rutherford County 911 (CTO) Certified Training Officer, who will teach the applicant the proper techniques, skills, and knowledge to become a certified Telecommunicator with this agency. Additional certification classes will also be provided through IAED, NC DCI, and NCJA. Certification requirements within the first full year of employment. 
This position is supervised by the 911 Communications Director. Work starts by learning to operate a computerized workstation while answering emergency and non-emergency phone calls, and operating additional computer programs. Work requires the ability to multi-task and function in high stress situations while remaining calm, having patience with callers who are under stress, frightened or angry. A fully trained Telecommunicator position involves Call Taking, and dispatching for Law Enforcement, Medical Personnel and Firefighters. Telecommunicators work in a confined area under constant exposure to radio traffic, ringing telephones, and conversations occurring simultaneously. Minimum requirements: must be 18 years of age, High School Diploma, proficient in computer keyboarding, must be able to pass a typing test with a minimum of 20 WPM. Additional onsite aptitude tests will be administered upon completion of a successful typing test.  Those experienced with customer service, call handing, or data entry are strongly encouraged to apply. Growth opportunities are available to move to a full time position, when one becomes available. Potential applicant must also pass a hearing test, drug test, background check, and psychological exam.
