Rutherford County NC is seeking a Director of Elections. The employee in this class is responsible for planning, directing and supervising all areas of the election process and the daily operations of the Elections Department. Work includes preparing for and executing all federal, state and municipal elections in the county; ensuring accuracy of election results; preparing voting equipment and supplies for elections; training poll workers; conducting voter education and registration drive programs; maintaining addressing of voters by use of maps; overseeing the filing of campaign finance reports; and overseeing and participating in voter registration. Work also involves developing and implementing procedural and technical improvements for the elections process and department operations; preparing and maintaining the departmental budget; preparing bid specifications for election services and equipment; answering questions from the public and the media; and maintaining the department website. The employee provides staff support to the County Board of Elections in coordinating and scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, recording and reviewing minutes, and presenting potential voter problems and trends. Independent sound judgment, initiative, tact and courtesy are required in overseeing the filing and elections processes and in dealing with the general public. Work requires a thorough knowledge of State Statutes relating to election laws and a high degree of accuracy is critical. Work is performed in accordance with State election laws and policies and procedures established by the County Board of Elections. Work is performed under the general direction of the State Board of Elections, County Board of Elections and the County Manager and is reviewed through accuracy of records, efficiency of office and election operations, and feedback from the public. 

Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting work, operate a computer terminal, and to read extensively.
Desirable Education and Experience: Graduation from a college or university with an Associate’s degree in business or related field and considerable administrative experience, preferably involving extensive public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements Elections Administrator certification from the State Board of Elections within three years of employment. Notary Public certification.

POSITION AVAILABLE – Full-time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a multi passenger vehicle.  Must assist the elderly and/or adults with a disability to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, where courtesy, and tact is a must. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography. Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are 37.5 hrs./week. Transit operates from approx. 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, wages are $24,210.00/year plus benefits. Minimum requirements: valid N.C. driver’s license, excellent driving record, clear background check, five years’ experience as a licensed driver, graduation from high school, pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol testing required.  Rutherford County has a Mechanic Tech Position available.  This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment.  At the Direction of the Garage Supervisor, conducts scheduled preventive maintenance functions, oil changes, diagnoses vehicle malfunctions and mechanical problems, performs engine, exhaust, steering, electrical, air conditioning, and brake repairs.  Prepares work reports and inventory control and other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications:  Tech 1 Automotive Certification with 3 to 5 years experience in general automotive repair and /or a technical school certificate (ASE) preferred.  Candidate must provide appropriate tools for the trade.  Must be able to lift/push/pull 50+ lbs.  Possession of or ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license.  Hours Mon-Thur-7:00 am-4:00 pm, Fri 7:00 am-12:00 noon.  EMT-Paramedic Full Time Position

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for EMT-Paramedic full time positions. Rutherford County, located in Western North Carolina consists of 564 square miles and an annual population of 64,000.  Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (5) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County and (4) EMT-P level convalescent trucks from (1) base. The 911 trucks work a 24/48 schedule and the convalescent trucks work a sliding schedule based on need of trucks.  Salary Range is $40,000-$45,000 include overtime.  All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current EMT-P credential with NCOEMS in good standing.  Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS.   ALS candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP & PHTLS/ITLS/ATT.  All candidates must possess or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 prior to employment.  Candidates are required to submit to pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record check and background checks. Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking part time detention officers for the Rutherford County Detention Center.  Duties include direct supervision, processing, classification, transporting and safety of inmates.  Applicants must have good communication skills, be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, pass drug test and pass an extensive criminal background check. Applicant must meet Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office requirements and be eligible for certification by NC Sheriffs’ Training and Standards Commission.  Wages:  $13.48 while training, $13.99 when certified.  Work schedule: 12 hour days/evenings, weekends and holidays.  Apply at Rutherford County Sheriffs’ Office, 198 N.
