POSITION AVAILABLE –Rutherford County has a full time Code Enforcement Officer position available. Position reports to the Director of Building Inspections. Duties involve working with contractors, developers, engineers, and property owners to inspect new and remodeled buildings both residential and commercial for compliance with Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes. Also provides support and interpretation of state codes, meets with property owners, assists with office responsibilities related to permit issuance and examination of building plans and construction documents for compliance with the NC State Building Codes. Job requires working in confined spaces, on roof tops, and in attics. Minimum requirements: High School diploma, experience and/or special training in residential/commercial building, electrical, mechanical or plumbing fields or equivalent combination of education and experience. Rutherford County is seeking to employ a Tax Administrator with the skills and experience commensurate to the position. The successful candidate must be able to lead staff to meet the demands of the department. The candidate must be an excellent communicator, must possess exceptional customer service skills, and must possess considerable knowledge of the Revenue Department. An employee in this class plans, organizes, assigns, and directs the work of staff responsible for appraising property, listing taxes, reevaluating property, maintaining property records, maps and files, collecting taxes and handling appeals and public contacts on tax assessments. Duties include researching and developing new and revised procedures and forms to meet changing needs and to improve departmental efficiency. Work involves developing policies, procedures, and methods for program operations; handling budget and personnel matters; and working with sensitive and controversial issues in the tax assessment, valuation and revaluation, collection and garnishment program. Considerable independent judgment must be exercised in making final decisions regarding contested property values and legal points on tax assessment and collection matters. Work is performed in accordance with state statutes and local ordinances under the general supervision of the Board of County Commissioners. The position also reports to the County Manager for administrative and fiscal matters, and is reviewed through periodic conferences, reports and an annual audit of all records.
Salary range $71,424-$74,710 depending on experience plus a healthy benefit package which includes enrollment in the NC Retirement System, 3.25% to 401k, 70/30 health plan, dental plan, and $10,000 life insurance in addition to optional supplemental policies. Min req: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, economics, or related field; 3-6 years’ experience in managing components of a tax program, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Rutherford County has a full time Real Property Appraiser I position available. Reports to the Revenue Director. Position appraises residential dwellings and commercial buildings according to code, studies building plans and information pertaining to sales, prepares field cards, appraises lots in subdivisions or other land splits, determines market value, uses a variety of Tax Office records to obtain data concerning location, owner and dimensions of property, reviews appraisals and determines whether or not assessment should be modified, defends values and makes recommendations to the Board of Equalization and Review, resolves new construction and land value complaints, assists taxpayers in correcting records of real property listing, and other duties as assigned: Graduation from high school with Bachelors preferred in field of study, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of position including understanding of three approaches to value regarding cost, sales comparison, and income, Certification as a Tax Appraiser by the Ad Valorem Tax Division of the NC Department of Revenue and certification by the NC Association of Assessing required within 2 - 3 years of employment. Rutherford County Library is seeking a part-time Library Associate with Spanish language skills. The ideal candidate will communicate orally and in writing in both Spanish and English; translate library handouts into Spanish; meet with members of the Spanish-speaking community; interpret for patrons; prepare library displays; help provide tours, book talks, and multi-media programs in both English and Spanish; with the help of other staff members develop and present programming for all ages. POSITION AVAILABLE –Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department. Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle. Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle. Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact. Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography. EMT-Paramedic Full Time Position
Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for EMT-Paramedic full time positions. Rutherford County, located in Western North Carolina consists of 564 square miles and an annual population of 64,000. Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division. RCEMS operates (5) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County and (4) EMT-P level convalescent trucks from (1) base. The 911 trucks work a 24/48 schedule and the convalescent trucks work a sliding schedule based on need of trucks. Salary Range is $40,000-$45,000 include overtime. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current EMT-P credential with NCOEMS in good standing. Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS. Rutherford County Sheriff's 911 Communications is seeking a Part Time Call Taker for a 5pm – 11pm (approx.) mini-shift. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. EXPERIENCE is desired but the right candidate will be trained. Position is supervised by the Communications Director. Work involves operating a computerized work station while answering emergency and non-emergency calls. Work requires the ability to multi-task and function in high stress situations while remaining calm, having patience with callers who are under stress, frightened or angry. Position involves Call Taking for Law Enforcement, Medical Personnel and Firefighters. Call-Takers work in a confined area under constant exposure to radio traffic, ringing telephones, and conversations occurring simultaneously. Minimum requirements: must be 18 years of age, High School Diploma, proficient in computer keyboarding, must be able to pass an onsite aptitude test.
